However Age of Decadence is good in choices and consequences -the main focus for developers even if the way to implement those choices was rigid around simple skill checks. For me his main problem is the sense that developer steal player agency, by overdesign the game and make all a fact of pass skill-checks that is NOT role-playing, being so rail-roaded and linear experience as most story-centric games. I kinda agree with the "meh" and is true that a normal playthrough is too short, but remember that most old crpgs are as short as AoD, so isn't so bad. I might consider that game if it were not so short. Originally posted by Teralitha:Age of decadence? Meh. The discussion thread (funny to read, specially some butthurt from the different "schools"): The old 2014 top 50 -finally top 72- list is better in some aspects to me, adding 10-15 games from 2014-2019 could be perfect: I think is a bit too much focused on 1998-2002, what many crpgs fans call the "renaissance era" of crpgs and punish some recent games that are classic examples of crpgs while accept others that have far less in common with the genre, for example: Prey and NieR: Authomata are good games, but they are really better as crpgs than Tiranny or Lords of Xulima? Dark Souls is a really, really good game and I have no doubt that have a lot of traditional crpgs features -character builds relevance, progression, exploration, etc, but is really Dark Souls better as crpg than Underrail, Pathfinder Kingmaker or even Kenshi?Īlso, even there are many old users and harcore crpg fans in that site, I think they forget a little about old classics of the 1985-1995 -"golden age"- period aprox, that still have very impressive examples -most are in the list, but some way to low. Morrowind obtained more points than in 2014 edition but lose positions in the top 10, because greater increase in Gothic 2, Deus Ex and New Vegas votes. Morrowind makes the 10th position in spite of the large number of recent crpgs -2014-2018- that made appearance in this edition and the eternal butthurt of some fans of other games. The full article with user reviews -Morrowind ones aren't the best.-: This is the second general "best crpgs" poll from the codex after 2014 one. A few days ago the final results of the 2019 survey on the best crpgs were published on rpg codex -the most active and demanding crpg specific site by far.
